Accessibility statement for Midlothian District Scouts

This website (https://midlothianscouts.org.uk) is run by Midlothian District Scout Council, a Scottish charity (SC041302). The site is maintained by volunteers. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, including people with disabilities and people who use assistive technology.

This statement explains what you can do to make the site easier to use, what we know about its accessibility, and how to contact us if you have a problem or need information in another format.

What you can do

You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • resize text using your browser settings
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard only
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader
  • use your browser’s or device’s built-in accessibility settings (for example high contrast, larger text or reduced motion)

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use: My Computer My Way (AbilityNet).

How accessible this website is

We aim to make this website usable for as many people as possible. We have not carried out a formal accessibility audit, and we do not claim that the site fully meets WCAG 2.2 AA. As a volunteer-run district, we work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as far as is practical.

We know of these limitations:

  • Images: some images may not have full alternative (alt) text. We are improving this as we update pages.
  • Documents: some older PDFs and other documents linked from Resources may not be fully accessible (for example they may not be tagged for screen readers or may not reflow well).
  • Tables: some tables (for example group meeting nights or volunteer lists) can be harder to use on small screens.
  • External services: some links and forms take you to other websites that we do not control. These include Jotform (enquiry and other forms), Online Scout Manager (waiting lists), scouts.org.uk and Google Maps. Their accessibility is the responsibility of those organisations.

The site runs on WordPress with the Scout Group theme (by ignis-sys) and is hosted by Fasthosts.

Please tell us:

  • the web address (URL) of the page
