Volunteer with the 14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg Scout Group
The 14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg Scout Group is run entirely by volunteers. Whether you can help now and then or every week, you could help young people in Bonnyrigg gain skills for life, and have fun along the way.
Volunteering with the 14th Midlothian Bonnyrigg
We meet at Bonnyrigg Scout Hall, Eldindean Road, Bonnyrigg EH19 2HJ, where the group has been based since 1916. Our sections, and the nights they meet, are listed below. Volunteers can help with any of them:
- Beavers (6 to 8 years): two Colonies, Monday and Friday
- Cubs (8 to 10½ years): two Packs, Tuesday and Wednesday
- Scouts (10½ to 14 years): two Troops, Monday and Wednesday
- Explorers (14 to 18 years): one Unit, Friday (partnered with the Midlothian Explorer Scout Unit)
You don’t have to work with a section: help with the hall, fundraising or the running of the group is just as valuable. Read about the group on our Group information and Group history pages.

Why volunteer?
Scouts says volunteering can boost your wellbeing, build skills for the future and make a real difference to young people. Everyone is welcome and you don’t need to have been a Scout. Roles range from occasional helpers to section leaders and behind-the-scenes jobs such as trustee or treasurer, and they can fit around the time you have. See Volunteer with Scouts.
Training and safeguarding
- Every volunteer gets an induction and ongoing support. New volunteers complete Safety and Safeguarding learning in their first 30 days and the rest of Growing Roots within six months (new joiners pack).
- Everyone follows the Yellow Card, the code of practice for adults in Scouts.
- In Scotland, a regulated role needs a Scouts PVG disclosure that UK HQ Safeguarding has viewed and risk assessed before you start (criminal record checks in Scotland).
